Three Baby Safety Tips for Your Home {Guest Post}

Babies are just about the best things on earth. They’re also some of the most vulnerable living things on earth. Babies can get into a lot of trouble, especially when they start crawling and walking around on their own. So, what exactly do you need to do to keep your baby safe in your home? Many first-time parents don't know for sure. Here are three of the things you should definitely consider doing before your baby starts crawling:

Start in the Bathroom

The bathroom is one of the most unsafe places for your baby to go into alone in your whole house. The tile in your bathroom is slippery and sometimes wet, which makes it a place where your baby could easily slip and injure himself. Additionally, something like a razor on the side of the bathtub can be very dangerous, if your baby gets ahold of it. So, be sure to move things like razors out of baby’s reach and try to always keep all the doors to your bathrooms closed at all times.

Cover your Plugs

Cover your unused plugs with plug covers. Babies have a tendency to want to stick their fingers in electrical outlets, so plug covers are essential.

Move the Bookcase to your Bedroom

Take any and all bookcases out of common areas. You don’t want a pile of books to come crashing down when your baby is trying to climb the bookcase. Additionally, if you keep DVDs and other household items on racks or other reachable shelves, you may want to consider investing in a cabinet to store those items. If they’re stored in a cabinet, your baby won’t be able to knock them down and risk getting injured.

These are just some of the most important things you’ll need to do to adequately baby-proof your home. Remember that safety for your child comes first before interior design. Once your child gets a little older, you can start focusing more on the design aspects of your home again. For now, just keep your little one safe and your home clean, attractive, and tastefully decorated!
