My Living Room Makeover!

We have lived in this house now for just over 6 years and we never decorated most of the rooms, just the kids and bathroom. I hated our living wall paper, it was magnolia which I didn't mind but it was that horrible textured wallpaper, with old fashioned flowers all over it (sorry forgot to take before photos! what I'm I like!). So I decided we should strip it all off and just paint on a nice smooth surface. Everyone kept saying just to paint over the horrible textured wallpaper as it would be much easier and quicker. But no, I wanted it off!

Was a big mistake!!!

It took forever to do!!! And me and my husband are hopeless at DIY and decorating. It took us a day and a half just to just strip the wallpaper!! From 8am till midnight!
It was too late for second thoughts half way through! so on we went.

Just look at the state!

But we did it, we painted 3 walls Biscuit Crunch and the main wall Chocolate Dream.
We brought a nice big corner sofa (which I've always wanted) and a brown carpet (before it was terracotta and showed up every single mark)

ignore the circles there from the camera

We have still got our old cream curtains, but I'm thinking about buying some brown ones

And I have a nice big picture to go up on this wall still. Waiting for my dad to do it for us as if I let my husband do it we'll end up going through to next doors house! LOL

  1. What a comfy looking couch! And wall paper is the biggest pain to take down but your walls look lovely and worth all the effort!

  2. Taking wallpaper down is a really awful job - I usually find I bring half the wall off with it - but so worth it in the end.

  3. Phew - what a chore! Even though there wasn't a before picture, it definitely looks better than what I imagined the wallpaper to look like! =) Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

  5. Great makeover! Me & my family are about to re-do our house. It was my grandmother's house. It was built in the 70's...so when you step in my house it still looks like the 70's! Wood wall paneling, old laminate flooring that is starting to tear in areas, the bathroom has pink tile, 70's flowers on the tub & toilet, wallpaper with different pink things on it. Now, honestly, I love the 70's look. I really do. The only problem is the stuff literally came from the 70's and it's old and now actually beginning to look like it. My mom is having hip replacement surgery in April. We are working on painting the paneling, re-doing the floors, & re-doing the bathroom! New furniture for the living room as well! Super excited for the up-date! Even though I'll miss the current look!

  6. Removing wallpaper is high on the list of 'Things I Hate To Do' however, it is also on the 'So Worth It' list too! I love the paint colors you've chosen Biscuit Crunch and Chocolate Dream, they even sound yummy. Thanks so much for sharing your makeover at the Rock N Share!

  7. Friends don't let friends wallpaper, that's my motto. I have torn that stuff down in just about every house we've lived in (5 since I got married). So my hat is off to you and your husband for taking it off, too! Love that sofa, btw. If you haven't already, I'd love if you'd come join my How To Tuesday link party, too.

  8. Wow! That was a lot of work. I got tired just thinking about how much work it took you and your husband to tear down that wallpaper! Whew! The room look fresh and comfy now. Great work! :)
